First off, thanks for taking the time to visit us. Where do I begin? Let me think. One of my favorite quote is "We hide ourselves in our music to reveal ourselves". I feel that's how deeply I am connected with my music and my audiences. I have always been passionate about music. Music has always kept me moving. When the times were tough, my tapes kept me going. When the times were good, my music made my days even brighter. I had hundreds of tapes (Yes, tapes). My cousin owned a music store and I remember spending a lot of time riding my bike to his shop to find new music every other day. Even as a kid I had a huge listening range; I used to listen to English Rock n Roll, Pop, Hip Hop, Alternative, Reggae, as well as Classic Indian and Pakistani music, Bollywood remixes, IndiPop, Ghazals and Sufi bands. I have always loved the South Asian sounds. Most recently, I have leaned more toward the Asian underground music and the blending of eastern and western music. My personal desi music collection includes tracks from 1940's and onwards. If there ever was a good Indian or Pakistani song, chances are I have it. My English music collection is just as large but geared more towards certain genres.
Even though I have a full time professional career in Consulting, Deejaying has always been a hobby and a passion that kept me close to what I love the most-My music. I founded djdesi.com in 1999 to promote my hobby and 6 years and over hundred events later, we are still going strong. Thanks to all of you for keeping my passion alive. There is nothing like watching people smile and dance and "uncle and aunties" move. This job has allowed me to travel across the country and meet hundreds of people. I am not stopping now. Chances are I will be 65 years old and deejaying for my grandkids someday - or possibly your grandkids!

He is always on a go. He currently works as a Business Development Consultant, runs a consulting operation and manages day to day activities of djdesi.com. DJ Desi believes strongly in giving back to the community. He currently volunteers for Youth Programs and he has helped generate money for Gesundheit Institute (Patch Adams Hospital) and had an honor of speaking with the real Dr. Patch Adams. He has done charity events for several nonprofit organizations and offered his support to Red Cross and ILP (Indian Literacy Project). Besides all of his musical and charity activities, he enjoys playing cricket, traveling, basketball and reading books. He is a contributing member of UNICEF.
DJ Desi is one of America's most well traveled and globally respected South Asian DJs. Despite his nature to fly steadily below the world's DJ radar over the past decade, DJ Desi has gained legions of devoted fans in worldwide broadband bedrooms who purr at the thought of him appearing in their home town.
DJ Desi is obsessed with finding and exposing new music. The onset of Desi's career occurred in 1998; now he's performed in several states and his musical memory is an encyclopedia of dance music history. When not on the road, he's either mining beats in his Washington DC studio or diligently searching for set material in the troughs of Washington DC's record shops. His productions span the arenas of desi underground music, house and techno--hard, tribal, deep, floating, pushing and swirling. Impossible to put to words, it's usually hour four into one of his extended sets where every style comes together--blending, lifting, causing a style unto its own.
During performances, Desi's preferred musical palate consists of two decks, a couple of CD players, a looping sampler and outboard effects. During his performances it's typical to see him grabbing, twisting and manipulating clusters of knobs buttons and faders, all precisely moved to follow his momentary sonic path. Nothing is planned until seconds before it occurs, and when it does, it is extremely deliberate. Sometimes daring and unexpected but strangely fitting sounds are injected into the system on the fly, displaying a true love for his craft. Not afraid to experiment, he risks humiliation before thousands. His personal music collection includes over 25,000 songs, one of the largest on the East Coast.
Given a few hours of warming up, Desi will challenge your taste and sense of what a DJ should be. Few master the flow of seamless genre shifting within one set with such technical mastery. His desi roots show as he occasionally dips into the more popular world of western beats. But he's also been known to execute sessions of straight ahead hip hop and techno without an ounce of deviation. Many factors contribute to where a set will go, but the final product won't be known, even to Desi, until it's over.
Relentlessly rising as one of the world's primary international dance music luminaries, Desi has even occasionally been granted access to the teched out booths in the most respected past and present nightclubs in his own backyard: H20, Platinum, Vida. Refusing politics, a true hero to the underground, Desi displays equal parts skill and sonic finesse, giving proof to the dream that living what you love can become a reality.
